Do it for Broph

Just wanted to let everybody know, we’ve got a special weekend coming up at UGA.  Our wonderful hoop girls are hosting a 5k fun run on Saturday morning.  It is the Do it for Broph 5k in honor of Kevin Brophy and proceeds benefit the Kevin Brophy Scholarship Endowment Fund.

For those of you that have never heard of Kevin Brophy, you can find out more about him here.  In short, he was an Australian exchange student that walked on to the basketball team here at UGA. He passed away in a car accident in 2006 driving to visit his host family in Savannah, Georgia.  I remember him being a counselor at UGA’s Elite Camp I attended prior to my senior year of high school. I can remember him having tons of fun on the basketball court, having his teammates grab him by the waist and hoist him towards the rim so he could throw down ridiculous dunks.

Last year the run was later on in the semester and it was pretty cold out. This year, it should be much nicer out and it looks like our team will be at the race cheering you on once again. If you’re interested in running the 5k for a chance to win some cool prizes, check out this Facebook event page or just come to Stegeman Coliseum at 8 am this Saturday (9.25.10).

What’s up world? As a team we’ve had a busy couple of weeks getting back into school mode.  I want to thank all of our fans and let you know that we’re in the gym working to make you proud this season. We’ve started our workouts in the weight room as well as individual workouts in the gym.

Our team was part of a great event about a month ago that I didn’t get around to blogging about.  Coach Fox and his wife put on the Suits & Sneakers Gala in the Classic Center in downtown Athens.  Its an event to raise money for cancer research in partnership with the American Cancer Society inspired by the Coaches vs. Cancer tradition of wearing sneakers on the sidelines.

Former Bulldog greats Willie Anderson, Shandon Anderson, and Jarvis Hayes among others were in attendance and we had a great time mingling with some of our biggest fans.  Also in attendance was  Coach Mark Richt; We have a little history. I love being a part of the University of Georgia’s Athletic Department.  I love my coaches and all the coaches I have met from other sports have been great.

Here are a couple pics from the Suits vs. Sneakers event:

I’ll be back soon. Thanks for checking out my blog.
